The course will help dental nurses and hygienists’ professional development by teaching them the skills needed to take impressions of patients. Giving in-depth knowledge of dental impression materials and techniques, it will help increase their clinical participation and improve patient care. The course will provide an underpinning of theoretical knowledge, which will be further developed through practical application and case study work after the course.

Aims & Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide continued professional development for registered dental nurses and hygienists. Enabling them to competently undertake dental impressions in a wide range of applications including impression taking for prosthetics, orthodontics, whitening trays, study models and mouth guards.

  • Increase delegates’ clinical participation by learning techniques from impression taking that can be used in the surgery.
  • Improved understanding of the restorative procedures that require the use of dental impressions.

  • Demonstrate competency in safely and effectively taking dental impressions under the supervision of a dentist.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of dental impression materials.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the requirements for and use of dental impressions through set assignments.
Course Description

The course will help dental nurses and hygienists’ professional development by teaching them the skills needed to take impressions of patients. Giving in-depth knowledge of dental impression materials and techniques, it will help increase their clinical participation and improve patient care. The course will provide an underpinning of theoretical knowledge, which will be further developed through practical application and case study work after the course.

Course Requirements
  • GDC number. Registered dental nurse or hygienist.
  • Currently employed within a dental practice.
  • Access to patients requiring dental impressions.
CPD – 7 hours of enhanced CPD

(6 hours on the day and 1 hour with submitted record of experience). To receive your CPD Certificate you must: Provide a record of experience. Complete post course study work including taking 10 sets of impressions. The course programme is amendable at the presenters discretion.

Coaching and mentoring is one of his true passions, helping support the development and career potential of budding clinicians. He is very experienced in Dental Photography and how this can be utilised to showcase skills and enhance the patient journey.
